How To Install WordPress on a BlueHost Domain

Installing WordPress can be made considerably more or less difficult depending your hosting provider. Today we’re going to go over installing a WordPress blog on BlueHost, because they are one of the simpler providers to use. Once you have a domain attached to a hosting account, just follow these steps to get your blog up and running. Note: It is possible transfer your domain to BlueHost if you already bought the name from another registrar.

1. Log into your hosting account control panel. You can find the password in the confirmation email you received. Scroll down to the “Software/Services” section. In this section you should see a button for WordPress. You can click on that, or if it isn’t there, find the button for “SimpleScripts.” Select that, and on the next page scroll down and look for the section titled “Blogs.” There will be another link to the WordPress installer listed there.
2. Once you click on the WordPress button you’ll see a page with information about WordPress (the version and other details). Click the green “Continue” link at the bottom of the page.
3. The next page has three steps.
   • Step One allows you to choose what version of WordPress you will install. The default is the most recent version, so just leave that setting as it is.
   • Step Two has a couple of settings. The first lets you choose what folder you want to place WordPress in. In most cases you will also leave this as it is so that your blog will be the main page of your website. If, however, you want your blog to be located in a subdirectory, you can enter that here. Next you have an opportunity to enter the name of your blog as well as a username and password for yourself. These are optional and can be changed at any time in the future. Lastly, there is an option to have a database automatically created for you. Make sure this stays checked.
   • Step Three is the legal section. Check both boxes and click green button.

Once the installation is complete, you’ll be given two links and your log-in credentials. One will take you to your blog, the other to your log-in page. The URL to your log-in page is simple: just add “/wp-admin” (without the quotes) to the end of your site’s URL. Then use the username and password you set up earlier (or the one that was generated for you if you didn’t specify your own).

Now your blog is up and running and  you’re ready to go!
